Our custom-fitted dentures are cosmetically pleasing, as well as functional and comfortable. Love your smile again, thanks to dentures.

What are dentures?

Dentures have been used to replace missing teeth for a number of years, and continue to be a popular and viable answer to tooth loss. Today, dentures are more lightweight, durable and authentic than ever before – they’re virtually indistinguishable from real teeth.

What to expect from dentures

During an initial consultation, we’ll discuss your options for replacing missing teeth, and outline the benefits of each. It’s important to us that patients feel in-the-know about everything that tooth replacement treatment entails, particularly as such treatments can bring about fantastic life-changing benefits.

By collating information including measurements, scans or impressions (moulds) and digital photographs, your dentures can be created with an excellent degree of precision. This may take 4 visits, 2 weeks apart. At the final visit, we will check the dentures are a comfortable fit for your mouth, ensure the teeth bite together correctly and provide the aesthetic result you are looking for.

What type of denture should I have?

We offer two types of dentures:

  •  Metal, cobalt chrome dentures.
  • Acrylic, traditional, gum-coloured dentures.

We will discuss these options with you and advise on the benefits of each, depending on your individual case.

Full dentures are used when there are no teeth remaining on the top or bottom, or both jaws. Partial dentures can be used to replace one or more teeth when there are natural teeth still present.

Take a look at the animated video below to see how dentures are created and placed.

What are immediate dentures?

Immediate dentures are temporary dentures that can be used to replace a tooth or several teeth immediately after extractions.

Impressions of the teeth are taken and sent to a dental lab where they make a temporary denture to replace the tooth or teeth to be extracted. After the tooth is removed, we fit the immediate denture and adjust it to ensure it fits properly. After teeth are taken out the gums closes over and the bone remodels itself to close the gap. This can make the denture become a bit loose. 3 months after the extraction the remodelling of the bone and gum slows down so we can start making a more permanent denture. This is also a temporary measure for other options to replace the teeth such as bridges or implants.

Why dentures?

  • Replace missing teeth without invasive dental treatment.
  • Dentures give you a fuller smile, and can plump out the lip and cheek area to create a more youthful appearance.
  • Restores to the basic function of teeth for eating, chewing, talking and smiling for patients with multiple missing teeth.
  • Less expensive than implants.

Aftercare

Some aftercare tips to note after getting dentures to include:

  • Clean your dentures every night with a brush and some soapy water.
  • Remove your denture at night for optimal oral health.
  • Soak your dentures in a cleaning solution regularly to disinfect them.
  • If your denture is causing any ulcers or soreness on the gum, make an appointment to see us as it may require some adjustments.
